7 Day Overland Track Menu

Day 1:

Breakfast – ham and cheese croissant from the bakery on the way!

Lunch – homemade vegemite roll + mandarin
Entre – cuppa soup

Dinner – Basil pesto pasta with tuna and parmesan.
We used 1 x packet of Radix Basil Pesto - and added in 2 x basil infused sirena tuna tins, some spiral pasta and parmesan.
This was a heavier meal, with the tins of tuna, but well worth it!

Desert – chocolate bliss balls and a hot chocolate

Snacks – 2 x muesli bars, handful of scroggin and roasted fava beans

Day 2:

Breakfast – Radix Apple and Cinnamon
We aren’t big breakfast eaters so we shared one of these between the two of us.

Lunch – salami, cheese and hummus on cruskits – we love this dehydrated hummus + 1 mandarin

Entre – cuppa soup

Dinner – Radix Mexican Chilli x 1 each + deb mashed potato

Desert and snacks same as day 1

Day 3:

Breakfast – Strive Mountain Muesli
We had one each of these and it was by far our favourite breakfast. We mixed in hot water instead of cold for a bit of winter morning warmth.

Lunch, entre, desert and snacks – same as day 2

Dinner – 1 x double serve Strive Chicken Broccoli Pesto Pasta + parmesan (of course) This was our favourite dinner, so creamy and a really good amount for 2 people

Day 4:

Breakfast – Radix Mixed Berry
Again, we shared one of these between the two of us

Lunch – pouch of tuna on cruskits

Dinner – Radix Lamb, Mint and Rosemary with some rice

Entre, desert and snacks – same as day 2

Day 5: This was a rest day so we planned a bit of a treat for breakfast

Breakfast - Chorizo, scrambled egg and hummus toasted wrap – so excessive but so delightful. We love these scrambled eggs

Lunch - Salami, cheese and hummus wraps

Dinner – Strive Minestrone with the necessary parmesan ;-)

Entre, desert and snacks – same as day 2

Day 6:

Breakfast – Strive Fruit Medley Porridge
We had one each of these and it was a bit too much for us, we could have shared one

Lunch – Salami, peanut butter and hummus wraps

Dinner – Radix Turkish Falafel with deb mash potato

Entre, desert and snacks – same as day 2

Day 7:

Breakfast – Another Radix Mixed Berry

Lunch – massive burger and chips at the Hungry Wombat Café!

*We also had tea, coffee and hot chocolates all week too

On reflection:

The total weight of our food, not including snacks, was 6kgs - not quite 500g each per day. Our snacks were probably another 1kg on top of that and we had 4 mandarins, popped them in as we cleaned out our fridge before we left (it was lovely to have something fresh for the first few days!)

We ended the trip with only a couple of muesli bars and a handful of scroggin left over.
We went to bed with full bellies each night and weren’t craving anything too badly by the end of the week.

The strive meals take a bit more cooking time where-as the Radix meals are simply add boiling water and wait.
It was nice to have a mix of both. If we were in a rush or not wanting to spend too much time on meals then Radix was perfect, the pouches also double as a bowl so no dishes involved.

We did add deb mashed potato and rice to the Radix meals, probably not necessary but it was nice to add a different texture to the meal :-)
